the DEBATE
So during that entire debate, I kept thinking to myself "what are we even talking about anymore?" And then it was like a million topics going on at once. It was one person talking about one thing. then another person starts on something completely different. then a third person goes back to respond to that first person. Wow, I really cannot spell today. Okay, so I have to admit, I did contribute to all that confusion. Come on, we all did. But in the midst of all that chaos came some really important points. Should there be regulations on what types of advertisements can be posted where? Or does that automatically already happen because companies do not want to waste money on random advertising space? Then there is "who gets to decide what is moral or not?" Should one person or entity, either government or private, get the right to do that? And how do we even regulate the millions of advertisements that are out there, especially on the internet. It is hard enough to get child predators out, so how do we even start weeding out inappropriate advertisements? And do we even have to? Or is it simply personal responsibility? So in England, the Beyonce commercial for her perfume or something was found to be too risque so it is only allowed to be played on television at night time. Is that what we should do? I know our debate was not on how to regulate advertising, but I want to understand how we would attack such a problem. Someone care to explain?
